Following the Litherland Gala there was a funfair with stalls at Moss Lane and you could win little trinkets, or even goldfish if you tried hard.
I remember about 1968 (when I was 10) my Dad used to say to me after his work “go and get the pill, Ed” and he meant “go and get the football” – and we would then have a kick around in Hatton Hill Park. So I always thought “the pill” was “the football”. Of course we were actually in the late 1960s and so “the pill” had other meanings I’d not heard of.
So back to Moss Lane funfair at a darts stall – there I found a lapel badge I really wanted to to win with a very fitting message on it: “I TAKE THE PILL” Wow I thought, ideal for when my Dad asks me to get “the pill” ha ha. What was funny of course was the look on my Dad’s face when I proudly turned up with the badge – where did you get THAT he said – see pic…
