FIELD LANE, 1972

These pictures were taken on a short walk along Field Lane in the snow of early 1972. More descriptions are under each pic.

First one (above) is Owens Peck & Company Ltd Woodyard, Field Lane. The old building to left-of-centre is still there, itself being part of a Victorian mansion.

A wider angle shot to above. When your Dad sent you to the woody with a go-kart to get some “3 be 2” for his project you’d end up here.

To the left of the gates was Herbert Gregory’s. Not sure if there was a direct connection to Owens Peck.

Twizzying the camera around there is the slushy Field Lane, taken before the housing developments there today. The dark granite walls in the park to the left have all pretty much survived. The Elms can be seen in the distance.

Walking a bit further up, here is a clear shot of the Sefton Lift and Shutter factory. Beforehand from the war up until the 1970s this was Collinsons, who made boots and shoes, with regular direct sales in the Liverpool Echo. This is where Delph Court is now. Special prize for those who can name the bloke on the bike!

Crossing the road is a rear shot of the 1960s houses, now a formal part of Field Lane and the 3-storey flats still there today.

At the far end of the 3-storey flats is this view up Field lane towards Parr’s trade shop (in light green) and Chisholm’s and Co. Ltd, soon to become a Comet Warehouse (about 3 years later).
